BUFFALO — Freshmen goalkeeper Taylor Carillo (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) recorded her fifth-straight shutout to help the Bengals pick up their fifth win-in-a-row by downing Allegheny, 1-0 this afternoon at Coyer Field.

In what has been a growing trend this year, Buffalo State once again played a strong opening half, controlling much of the action. Despite outshooting Allegheny by a margin of 15-3, the Bengals and Gators were all tied, 0-0 heading into halftime. It what is also a growing trend, it didn’t take the Bengals long to figure it out coming out of the half.  Tianna Hatch (Endicott/Elmira Free Acad.) tipped in a beautiful cross from Catherine Mammoser (Lackawanna/Eden) just two minutes into the second to take a 1-0 lead.

Buffalo State continued to control possession in the second, allowing just two shots against in the final 45 minutes. The best save of the game was arguably made by a defenseman. With just 5:30 remaining, Allegheny’s Jessie Thiessen broke down the wing, cut to the net and deked out Carillo.  It was Danielle Caraturo’s (Commack/Commack) time to play hero, diving in front of Thiessen’s shot and redirecting it harmlessly over the wide-open net to maintain the Buffalo State lead.
The Gators kept the pressure on during the final five minutes, but couldn’t produce another chance as the Bengals locked-down defensively to collect the victory.

Carillo’s scoreless streak now sits at 529 minutes and 55 seconds. It is the first time since 2006 that a goalie has recorded five shutouts-in-a-row for the Bengals. She trails the school’s scoreless-streak record set by Katie Melsert (2006) by just 56 minutes and 37 seconds.

Buffalo State hosts two SUNYAC matches this weekend. On Friday, Oswego comes to town with kickoff at 3 p.m.  Following on Saturday, the Bengals take on Cortland at 1 p.m.
