APALACHIN — Canisius freshman David Hanes fired a four-under 68 and junior Mark Lesinski carded an even-par 72, as the Golden Griffins took part in round one of the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational Sunday.

The Griffs shot a team score of 289, which was one-over par. That stands as the best team effort for the Blue and Gold since Canisius shot 292 in the first round of the 2012 Little Three Championship at Harvest Hill Golf Couse.

Hanes, who won the 2016 Little Three Championship medalist honors on Wednesday after he shot a two-round score of 139, is tied for fifth in the field after his 68. Lesinski is tied for 27th, while fellow junior Michael Davern is tied for 37th after he carded a career-best score of 73.

Drexel, which shot a team score of 277 on Sunday, is in first place after round one of the tournament, which is being played at the Links at Hiawatha. Drexel’s Adam Mistretta leads the field after he carded a 65.

The second and final round of the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational will tee-off at 8:30 a.m., Monday morning.
