Robert A. “Art” Gladow, age 85, of Newfane, entered into rest on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport. Born May 23, 1931 in Lockport, Art is the son of the late Walter Gladow and Mildred (Holler) and Herman Gladow-Goodnick.

Art was a 1949 graduate of Newfane High School. He married Allie Rea Sherrie July 5, 1952 at the United Methodist Church in Newfane where he is a member. Art served in the US Army during the Korean War with the 2nd Infantry Division achieving the rank of Sergeant. He worked at Niagara Mohawk in Niagara Falls as a service representative retiring May 28, 1993 after 38 years. Art was an Exempt member of the Miller Hose Fire Company serving as their 1st Treasurer, the Niagara Mohawk 25 year Club, Newfane Historical Society, and the American Legion #873. Art loved his family and watching his grandson playing sports. He also enjoyed playing euchre, cribbage and going to the casino.

Surviving Art is his loving daughter, Sandra (Fred) Lort and cherished grandson, Geoffrey Aaron Lort. Also surviving Art is his sister-in-law, Bette Sherrie, his brother-in-law, Jack Sherrie and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Sunday from 3-6 pm, at the Kenneth H. Sherrie Funeral Home, 6139 East Avenue, Newfane, NY. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 am from the funeral home with the Reverend Kim Smith officiating. Interment will be in Hartland Central Cemetery, Gasport, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to the Newfane United Methodist Church.
