MUNCIE, IN – The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team (3-4-2, 0-1-0 MAC) fell on the road at Ball State on Friday night by the score of 1-0 in the Mid-American Conference opener. The Bulls were outshot in the match 20-1.

The Cardinals had the first scoring chance of the match in the ninth minute of play as Julia Elvbo saw her header saved by Laura Dougall.
Just over a minute later, Ball State was able to get on the board as Allison Abbe sent a great through ball in to Lauren Roll who buried her third goal of the season to make the score 1-0 in favor of the Cardinals. After some stagnant offensive play from both sides, the Cardinals had a pair of great chances to make it 2-0 in the 33rd minute of play but Laura Dougall made back-to-back stops on Alessandra Fistrovich and Kelsey Wendlandt, respectively.

Ball State had a great chance to add to their lead in the 50th minute but Laura Dougall made a great save diving to her left on Paula Guerrero, tipping the ball out of play for a corner kick that UB was able to clear away. Just over three minutes later, Laura Dougall made another diving stop on Gabby Veldman, keeping the score 1-0 in favor of the home side. The Bulls were able to get their first shot of the match in the 84th minute as Julia Benati sent the corner into the box where Dana Lytle took a shot on goal that was denied. The Cardinals had the final chance of the match in the 87th minute but Paula Guerrero’s header went wide of the cage.

With the loss, the Bulls have now lost six of their last seven Mid-American Conference opening matches. For the match, the Cardinals outshot the Bulls 20-1 and they held the 9-3 edge in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Laura Dougall had a strong match between the pipes as she was able to notch seven saves in the loss.

Head coach Shawn Burke said, “We were completely outplayed and out coached in every facet of the game. It’s on us as a staff to do a better job preparing our players for big games. We will see if we have the character to bounce back and get a result Sunday.”

The Bulls will remain on the road on Sunday as they head to Oxford, Ohio to take on the Miami (OH) RedHawks in their second MAC match of the season. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
