The Canisius College women’s soccer team will finish up a four-game road swing Saturday afternoon when the Golden Griffins travel to Lawrenceville, N.J. to take on Rider. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

Canisius bounced back after losing to Buffalo 3-0, to earn its first conference win of the year with a 2-1 OT victory at Fairfield. In the Griffs’ win over Fairfield on Sept. 17, senior Sabrina Fitzgerald scored her first career game-wining goal, and her second of the year, in the game’s 93rd minute to secure the victory. The win was the first for Canisius in five tries versus the Stags since the 2010-11 season. The Griffs have won three out of their last four games to improve their overall record to 3-4 on the year. Canisius did not pick up its third victory until 12 games into the season last year.

The Griffs enter the match with a 10-9-1 series lead, with the go-ahead win coming in 2-0 victory in the season finale last year. The divisional rivalry began in 1997, with Canisius claiming a 2-0 victory. The Griffs win last season saw a career day from Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald had three points, scoring the game’s second goal in the 83rd minute, while tallying an assist on the Griffs’ other goal. The last time the Canisius won three or more games on a four-game road trip was during the 2009-10 season. In that span, the Griffs went 4-0 with wins versus St. Bonaventure, St. Francis (PA) (OT), Delaware State and Fairleigh Dickinson (OT).

Rider is 4-2-2 this season. The Broncs are finishing up a four-game homestand against the Griffs, where they are 2-0-1. The Broncs are 34-9-5 on their home turf since the beginning of 2011 season. Rider’s senior goalkeeper Bethany-May Howard was name the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
