GENESEO — Melissa Smith (N. Tonawanda/Niagara Wheatfield) scored her fifth goal of the season and Taylor Carillo (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) registered her third shutout of the season as Buffalo State defeated host Geneseo, 1-0, in today’s SUNYAC season-opener.
Buffalo State outshot Geneseo 17-8 for the game and 6-1 in the first half, but the game remained scoreless at halftime. Smith finally broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute. Carillo finished with three saves in the game, extending her shutout streak to 259 minutes and 55 seconds.
Emily Janiszewski made eight saves in the loss for the Knights.
Buffalo State will visit Brockport at 1 p.m. Saturday.
