BUFFALO — Tristan Myers (Rochester/Webster Thomas) scored his sixth goal of the season with just one second remaining in overtime to lift Buffalo State to a 2-1 home victory over Geneseo in today’s SUNYAC season-opener at Coyer Field.

The final minute of overtime produced a wild scene at both ends of the field, culminating with Myers’ game-winner.  Bass Sarr (New York/JREC) looked to end the game for the Bengals with 55 seconds remaining, but his shot from in tight was deflected away by a Geneseo defender. The Knights raced down the field and Buffalo State goalkeeper William Banahene (Rochester/Brighton) appeared to overcommit on a breaking Geneseo player, only to reach out from his knees to steal the ball off of the foot of the would-be scorer with just under 40 seconds remaining.  Then it was the Bengals turn to push the ball back up field and Junior Geegba (Buffalo/Riverside) fed the ball into the corner for Myers, and he did the rest, twisting the Geneeso defender before firing a shot into the far side of the game with just one tick remaining on the clock.

Myers also assisted on the Bengals’ first goal which came way back in the 19th minute when he sent a 30-yard free kick to the back post where it was headed home by Drew Braun (East Aurora/Iroquois) for his first goal as a Bengal. Geneseo evened the score to force the overtime period in the 77th minute.  Buffalo State finished with a 20-11 advantage in shots, including 8-3 on goal.  Banahene finished with two saves in the win.

Buffalo State will host Brockport tomorrow at 4 p.m.
