It’s the first day of fall — or the Autumnal Equinox, if you prefer.

Technically, the equinox occurs at 10:21 a.m. The word equinox means “equal night,” a shortened version of “equal parts day and night,” with each taking up about the same amount of time. During the equinox, the Sun crosses the “celestial equator,” which is what causes the amount of nighttime and daytime. From now until the first day of spring — or Vernal Equinox — nights will be longer than days.

In other words, winter is coming. So get out there and enjoy it while you can. Today’s forecast calls for sunny skies throughout Western New York with a high of around 82.
