WILLIAMSVILLE — U.S. Rep. Brian Higgins will host Academy Night 2016 at 6 p.m. Oct. 13 at Williamsville South High School.

The event is designed as an opportunity for high school students, families, school administrators and counselors to find out more about service academy institutions, programs and the application process.

Representatives from the U.S. Military Academy, Naval Academy, Coast Guard Academy, Merchant Marine Academy, Air Force Academy and R.O.T.C programs will be in attendance.  Each of the military academy representatives will be available to answer questions and provide more information about the admissions process, eligibility, and nomination requests.

“Academy Night provides a great opportunity for students to hear first-hand about the application process as well as the education experience from alumni who’ve been through it themselves,” said Congressman Higgins.  “Students considering this higher-education path are encouraged to attend.”

Service Academy appointments are made by the President of the United States based on congressional and/or military nominations.  Each year Congressman Higgins appoints an Academy Advisory Board, made up of WNY veterans and community leaders, to interview all applicants and make recommendations.

Information about the application and nomination process can be found on Rep. Higgins’ website at:  http://higgins.house.gov/services/service-academy-nominations/service-academy-nominations-faq.
