Canisius senior Sabrina Fitzgerald scored her first career game-winning goal in the game’s 93rd minute, as the Golden Griffins posted a 2-1 overtime win over Fairfield Saturday afternoon. The win moved Canisius to 3-4-0 overall and 1-0-0 in MAAC play, while the Stags fell to 1-8-0 overall and 0-1-0 in league play.

Canisius trailed 1-0 at the half, but tied the game at 1-1 in the 81st minute after freshman Gretta Dry took advantage of a loose ball in front of Fairfield’s goal and beat Stags’ keeper Jenna Pike for her third goal of the season. Fairfield made a late push at the Griffs, but freshman keeper Alana Rossi was up to the task, making three saves in the final 1:34 of regulation to force the game to overtime.

In overtime, Dry sent a crossing pass through the box, where Fitzgerald was able to put the ball in the goal to lift the Griffs to the 2-1 victory. Rossi earned her third win of the year after she made six stops, while Pike was credited two saves in the loss.

Canisius will return to action Sept. 24, when the team plays at Rider. Kickoff in Lawrenceville, N.J., is set for 1 p.m.
