PHILADALPHIA – The Niagara University men’s tennis team started its fall schedule by participating in the St. Joseph’s Fall Invitational this weekend.

Six Purple Eagles played in the invitational. Josh Wilson and Felipe Fuentes were in the singles flight 1. Wilson lost to Dayton’s Tyler Flematti in straight sets before falling to Loyola’s J.J. Good in the consolation flight 1, 4-6, 6-0, 10-7. Fuentes went 1-1 in singles flight 1. He defeated Villanova’s Bradley Noyes in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) before losing to SJU’s Andre Fick in the quarterfinals.

Francis Nadeau and Brent Boleslav both represented Niagara in flight 1. Boleslav lost in straight sets to Drexel’s Youssef Lahlou in the main draw and fell to Lehigh’s Ethan Bogard in the consolation round in three sets. Nadeau lost in three sets to Lafayette’s Andrew Reed, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 in the main draw. In the consolation round, Nadeau bounced back with a 7-6(4), 6-3 win over SJU’s van Erven; he lost to Villanova’s Matt Phelps in the semifinals.

The Purple Eagles had their most success from their No. 1 doubles tandem of Fuentes and Wilson. The pair advanced to the quarterfinals with victories over Lehigh’s Graham Lehman and Jack Martin-Dyer, 8-3, and SJU’s Kyle Chalmers and Michael Santa Lucia, 8-2.

The Purple Eagles will play in the Binghamton Invitational from Friday through Sunday.
