Canisius senior Thomas Teupen scored the game-winning goal off a corner kick set-up from teammate Mathew Santos in the game’s 71st minute to lift the Golden Griffins to a 2-1 victory over Bucknell in the first game of the Duquesne Invitational Friday evening in Pittsburgh, Pa. The victory moves Canisius to 2-3-0 on the season, while Bucknell slipped to 1-3-1.

Canisius trailed the Bison 1-0 after the games first half, but the Blue and Gold evened the game at 1-1 in the 50th minute when freshman Troy Brady scored his first career goal. The game remained knotted at 1-1 until Teupen was able to redirect Santos’ corner kick overtop the outstretched arms of Bucknell goalkeeper Tyler Marchiano. For Teupen, it was his first goal of the season and the third in his career.

Redshirt junior goalkeeper Marco Trivellato made five stops on goal for the Griffs, which ended the contest holding an 18-12 advantage over Bucknell in shots.

Canisius will take on the host Duquesne Dukes on Sunday in the final game of the Duquesne Invitational. Game time in Pittsburgh is set for 2 p.m.
