BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo men’s soccer junior goalkeeper Joseph Kuta has been named Mid-American Conference Male Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday afternoon.

An economics major with a 3.936 GPA, Kuta has put together the best start to a season in program history for a goalkeeper as he owns a perfect 4-0 record to go along with four cleansheets. He currently owns a career-best shutout streak of 360 minutes while also leading the NCAA with four shutouts as the Bulls are the only 4-0 team with four shutouts in the country.

The Mississauga, Ontario native put together back-to-back solid performances this weekend as the Bulls were able to move to 4-0. On Friday morning, Kuta was on fire as he made a season-high nine saves against Stony Brook as the Bulls pulled out the 3-0 victory. He backed up his nine-save shutout victory with a two-save performance on Sunday as the Bulls down Incarnate Word 1-0.

The four cleansheets for Kuta are a career-high as he has accumulated 18 saves through four matches with a very strong defense in front of him. The defensive unit along with Kuta set the program record for longest shutout streak to start a season.

The Bulls return to the pitch on Friday as they travel to Virginia to take on VMI at 1 p.m. Buffalo will then head to Liberty for a Sunday afternoon match at 1 p.m.
