Since the new school year is upon us and the morning breakfast becomes such a rushed time, I thought that I would give you a recipe that is easy to do and make in bulk on the weekends and freeze. After all, on a hectic school morning who isn’t looking for easy when it comes to breakfast.

Deep fried french toast sticks;

  • 1 whole loaf of thick cut white bread,toast and cool each slice, and then each slice cut into 3 sticks.
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups of milk or half and half( use half and half for richer flavor)
  • 1/4c brown sugar
  • 4t. vanilla extract
  • 2t. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2t. ground nutmeg
  • 1 box frosted flakes cereal, pulverized in a food processor

Toast all your bread, you can do it in a toaster, but I find it faster, to put it on a cookie sheet and in a 350 oven,for 5-6 minutes. Pull it out when cool, cut each slice into 3 pieces. Make your french toast mix, using the eggs, milk, sugar, and spices. Dredge each piece through the french toast mix and then roll in the pulverized frosted flakes. Set on a piece of wax paper lined cookie sheet until ready to fry. When all pieces are coated, place in a deep fryer that has been heated to 350, fry 3-4 minutes per side, you will have to flip these over, as they will float to the top of the grease, when golden brown remove from grease, and drain. At this point you can serve them, with some pancake syrup, or powder sugar.

If you want to make a double batch, after you fry them, let them cool, and put them in a freezer-safe bag, and in the freezer. To reheat, place in a 350 oven, heat for 10-12 minutes, turning over once.
