Gas prices in Buffalo dropped a penny in the past week to $2.28 per gallon, while in Rochester, the price of gas is down two cents to $2.24.

Statewide, gas is $2.29 per gallon — down 48 cents from a year ago. The national average is $2.12, according to AAA of Western and Central NY.

Pump prices are likely to remain relatively cheap through the remainder of the summer and into the fall. Refineries will begin to switch to the less-expensive winter-blend gasoline Sept. 15, which could contribute to lower prices.
