BUFFALO — An 18-year-old Congo man was struck and killed by an NFTA Metro Rail train Monday night. Police are investigating the circumstances that lead to his death.

Kanu Kasonko, a refugee from the Democratic Republic of the Congo can be seen on surveillance footage stepping off the platform and walking, then running, onto the southbound tracks from the Union Street Station around 9 p.m. Police and NFTA officials say that no foul play is believed to have been involved. Authorities believe that Kasonko was lying on the tracks when he was struck. A toxicology report will be done to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved.

Kasonko is the second known death related to the Metro Rail system since its inception. The first was a suicide in 1990.
