BUFFALO — The 85-year-old Town of Lockport man who was rescued from the Upper Niagara River on Sunday after falling out of his boat has died, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Russell Nye had fallen from his boat on the west side on Tonawanda Island around 2:08 p.m. Sunday. He was rescued by City of Tonawanda Police Marine unit and taken to DeGraff Hospital before being transported to Buffalo General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday.

The Investigation is continuing by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.
