LOCKPORT — A public forum for those living in the area of South Street is planned for 6 p.m. at the Lockport Public Library.

The forum, put forth by the South Street Neighborhood Planning Initiative, is a multi-agency effort to identify community problems and create actions to address and resolve these problems as requested by the city’s economic development arm — the GLDC. They hope to introduce the project team and have a discussion about neighborhood strengths, weaknesses and needs.

The “South Street Neighborhood,” as defined by the group, is bounded from High Street on the south, Walnut Street on the north, North Transit Street on the west and Erie Street on the east. It is nearly identical to Lockport’s “impact zone,” and area designated by the city for increased police patrol and housing evaluation. It is primarily residential.

Some topics of discussion will include housing, employment, and neighborhood safety.
