Those planning to partake in one Western New York’s favorite pastimes this holiday weekend — drinking — should be aware the police agencies far and wide are planning extra patrols through Monday.

New York State Police, Monroe, Erie and Niagara County sheriff’s offices, as well as most municipal police departments will be on the lookout for those driving erratically, and even plan DWI checkpoints at undisclosed locations throughout Western New York.

Simply put, police say if you’re drinking, don’t drive.
