The cost of a gallon of unleaded gasoline are mostly the same as they were a week ago throughout Western New York. Buffalo gasoline averages $2.42 a gallon — up a penny — while Rochester drivers are paying $2.39 per gallon for the second straight week, according to AAA Western and Central New York.

The national price for a gallon of unleaded gas went up 4 cents from last week to $2.36 per gallon and the New York State average is $2.45 — higher than the cost locally. One year ago, the New York State average was $2.89.

Gasoline is already in high demand for the summer driving season. It looks like it should be a good summer for road trips, with no drastic increases in sight, even though June is frequently one of the most expensive months of the year when it comes to purchasing fuel. Memorial Day prices were the cheapest since 2005.
