The price of gasoline in Buffalo is unchanged from last week at $2.36 per gallon while in Rochester it dropped a penny to $2.35. State-wide, the price of gas is $2.38, the same as a week ago.
AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) speculates that gas prices have begun to stabilize as refineries increase production to meet record-high demand. Nationally, the price of gas went up a penny to $2.22.
Historically, gasoline demand increases leading into the summer driving season, and this year so far is no different. However, lower gas prices are contributing to drivers taking to the roads at record levels and the 2016 summer driving season is expected to rival 2007 when gasoline demand hit an all-time high.
AAA will release its annual Memorial Day travel forecast this week on Thursday, which is expected to say that travel will increase this year with more drivers on the road and a higher demand for gasoline
