DUNKIRK — A 44-year-old Buffalo man was charged Thursday with insurance fraud and multiple counts of filing instrument after New York State Police say he improperly filed for unemployment.

According to NYSP, Patrick Michalak filed for unemployment 39 times when he was unemployed, resulting in him receiving over $4,000 in payments he wasn’t entitled to.

He was processed at the State Police barracks in Fredonia and released with appearance tickets returnable to the City of Dunkirk Court, where he is scheduled to appear on a later date to answer the charges.
