Happy Hour History – “Virgin Snow: A Story about Buffalo at an Inflection Point” by Moxie Gardiner

November 1, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Buffalo was a vibrant, growing city from the early 1800s until 1960, when that year’s census showed the first ominous signs of a decline that would result in the city losing half its population over the final decades of the 20th Century. Virgin Snow tells the story of one girl and her family living on Buffalo’s working-class West Side, at a time when the city and its inhabitants were being rocked by forces local, national, and international that would change the course of Buffalo’s history as well as their own. The speaker will talk about some of the historical events affecting the lives of Buffalonians between 1968 and 1971 which would impact the city for years to come.
