Explore Buffalo Spotlight Tour: The Foundry
October 7, 2023 @ 10:00 am
The Foundry is an active, community-based business incubator space committed to after-school arts, STEAM (science, tech, engineering, art, math) and entrepreneurship sessions for youth, workforce development opportunities for young adults, classes for adults and space for new and growing small businesses. Students are able to acquire life-long skills that will help them to enter into the workforce. They are a “space for possibilities.”
The Foundry space includes: metal shop, wood shop, and a tech lab including 3D printers and textiles. There are currently 30 organizations located on site. Donations or classes are offered to pay for use of space making it a collaborative effort to support each other.
On this tour, you will have an opportunity to see first-hand, efforts to invest in the residents of the East Side. Some current tenants will be present to talk to their own experiences. Two such tenants are: fashion designer Robin Ryles whose latest line of clothing is called Volume; and Carmen from Cosmic Debris Jewelry. Carmen is a silver smith who makes one of a kind, bespoke pieces.
Emma Britain, who is on the staff of the Foundry, will also be available to sell pieces after the tour from her own pottery line. “Each piece of handmade Black and Birdy pottery is a unique masterpiece, a blend of art and functionality that brings joy to your everyday life. Embrace the beauty of the natural world and let the magic of the experience enchant you with every sip.”
The Foundry is fully handicap accessible. Off street parking is available in their parking lot. Enter from the side entrance adjacent to the parking lot.
