ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Artist Cindy L Meal began painting in 1997 after her daughter was born. Meal worked at a newspaper then, and she’d write poems and short stories in her spare time. Meal realized though that she needed something more.  She wanted to say something in a subtler way than just words.  She wanted to somehow “paint to communicate” and when she told someone that’s what she wanted to do – they said – so do it! 

Meal was given a sketch book, and pencils, and away she went. 

Over the years, Meal had sought out artists to teach her what she needed to know; she was hooked. She also learned through her yoga practice, that when you are ready, the teacher will come.  Meal trusted that belief and she learned some of the skills needed to paint “believable” pictures through the teachers that crossed her path.  She was then introduced to painting plein air (in the open air) and she loved how immediate and striking the colors could be. Meal still paints plein air today, but she also strives to paint more creatively using expressionism, impressionism, and abstraction.

Meal has exhibited around Western New York in numerous juried, joint, and solo artist shows since 2005, including at: Rust Belt Books, Project 308 Gallery Art Festival, Market Street Art Gallery, Lamp Lighter Gallery, Becker Farms, and ART247.
