WORCESTER, MA – The Buffalo Bisons scored first, but the Worcester Red Sox would use an answer right away to defeat the Bisons 14-2 on Friday night at Polar Park.

Ernie Clement and Spencer Horwitz drew back-to-back walks against James Paxton in the top of the first inning, and each were driven in to help Buffalo out to a 2-0 lead. Jordan Luplow drove in the first run with an RBI single scoring Clement for a one-run advantage, while a sacrifice fly by Wynton Bernard doubled the team’s lead to two.

However, Paxton would allow just one more hit to record the victory in five innings of work for the WooSox. Nine batters came to the plate in the bottom of the first as part of a five-run frame for Worcester. Back-to-back two-run doubles by Greg Allen and Daniel Palka would be all the offense the home team would need. Caleb Hamilton also added a run scoring double to increase the lead to 5-2 after an inning.

Palka would hit a home run in two straight innings to help secure the win for the WooSox. The veteran first baseman finished the night with four total hits and five RBIs in the victory. Ryan Fitzgerald also added his second homer of the season for Worcester.

L.J. Talley made his first professional pitching appearance of his career in the bottom of the eighth. He pitched a one-two-three inning and was the third position player to pitch on the season. Talley joined Stevie Berman, who pitched twice for Buffalo this year.

The two teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon starting at 4:05 p.m.
