For many people the words, “You’ve been Bloomed!” are sweet to hear. For over a decade, the Kenmore Village Im provement Society (KVIS) has been encouraging people to beautify the front gardens of their homes and businesses and awarding them for doing so.
The KVIS usually divides the village into zones then trained Bloom Scouts decide which places in each zone receive a Bloom sign and award. But this year the month long initiative will be done a bit dif ferently. Instead of Bloom Scouts deciding who gets Bloomed, anyone living anywhere will get to decide who will be Bloomed! This how it will work: Anyone can pick up a Bloom sign and congratulations card from the new KVIS shop lo cated at 7 Warren Avenue. The sign can be placed at any address in Kenmore that appeals to the person doing the Blooming. The card that comes with the Bloom sign will encourage the person receiving it to choose to pass the honor on, choosing another address to Bloom. People can choose to do their Blooming anonymously, or there will be a place on the congratulations card to say who has given the Bloom award. There will be a nominal fee of $5 for each Bloom sign/card to help cover printing expenses.
So as the weather warms and gardening starts again, keep an eye out for Kenmore gardens that you think should be Bloomed. If you or work in Kenmore, start thinking now of how you will beautify the front of your home or business with plants and flowers. The same guidelines that the KVIS has always used for Kenmore in Bloom apply: the garden must be free of weeds, well maintained, thoughtfully designed, not too many non-plant tchotchke, and real, not artificial plants. Kenmore in Bloom will take place from June 10-July 15 this year, Blooming may take place during that time.
