Mary G. Cosby, 100, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on February 15, 2023 at her residence under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Anna (Wojtac) Guercio.
Mary attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Niagara University and later a Master’s Degree from University at Buffalo in Public Health. In April 1952, she married John D. Cosby at St. Joseph Church. Mr. Cosby predeceased her on March 20, 1994.
Mary was employed in the Chemistry Laboratory at Carborundum until after World War II. She later worked as a Registered Nurse and Surgical Nurse at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital on 6th Street before becoming a Public Health Nurse for Niagara County, where she worked for 25 years prior to her retirement. Mary enjoyed square dancing and camping with her husband. Above all, she will be remembered for her kindness.
Mary is survived by her nieces, Patricia A. Guercio and Sharon G. (Larry Pierce) Kalivoda, PhD, her great-nephew, David Kalivoda, her great-great niece Madison T. Redmond, her caregiver and friend, Thomas Cali, as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her husband of 42 years, she was predeceased by her brother, John (late Gladys) Guercio.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 21 from 9 – 10:15 AM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304, where funeral services will begin at 10:15 AM followed by Mary’s Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14301. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings will be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Shriners Hospital.
