HUNTINGDON, PA – The Buffalo State men’s basketball team closed out the Juniata College Holiday Tournament as they fell 65-62 to Penn State Mont Alto at the Memorial Gymnasium.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE

  • Christian Smallhorne (Queens Village, NY/The Martin Luther School) had a career day as he netted 29 points for the Bengals.
  • Smallhorne also had three rebounds and two assists.
  • Mally Peaker (New York, NY/University Prep) tallied eight rebounds and two blocks.
  • Tyron Smith (New York, NY/Thurgood Marshall) grabbed five steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Penn State dominated the start as they began things on a 10-0 run.
  • The Bengals got back into things with an 8-0 run of their own, capped off by a Tone Greer (Bronx, NY/Intech) free throw.
  • Buffalo State rallied again to tie the game up 17-17 thanks to a layup from Matt Parkinson (Springfield Gardens, NY/John Browne).
  • Penn State Mont Alto controlled the rest of the half and went into the break with a 34-31 lead.
  • After Penn State went up by 7, Buffalo State bounced back into the action to eventually take a 49-48 lead after Smith stole the ball and dished an assist on a Mustafa Abokar (Buffalo, NY/Grand Island (NE)) layup.
  • After more back-and-forth action, Buffalo State entered the final minute of play down 62-60.
  • On the Bengals final possession, the game-tying three pointer bounced off the rim, giving Penn State Mont Alto the win.

FOR THE FOES

  • Four different players from Penn State Mont Alto scored double figures.
  • Caleb Eckert led the way with 18 points.
  • Bryson Fleming scored seven with a team-high nine rebounds.

UP NEXT
Buffalo State will return to the court in 2023 when they host Case Western Reserve University on January 4th at 2:00 pm. This will be the makeup game from the postponement back in November.
