BUFFALO — The Buffalo Fire Department won the 2016 Fire and Police Hockey Tournament, taking home the honor of being the best of 12 hockey teams playing the weekend tourney.

With a 2-0-1 record during tournament play, BFD’s only challenge seemed to be the in-house team, the Rink Guards, which tied the firefighters this morning, 5-5. Following the tie, BFD went on to to beat D.O.C.C.S. 3-2 and then immediately thereafter, bested the Buffalo Police Department 4-2.

Participating organizations included Buffalo Police, Buffalo Fire, Niagara Falls Police, Niagara Falls Fire, Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Tonawanda Police, Genesee County Sheriff’s Department, Batavia Police, Batavia Fire, Lackawanna Police, Lackawanna Fire, NY State Department of Corrections, and Hamilton (ON) Fire.

Today’s tournament scores were:

  • Niagara County Sheriffs Office 3 – On Ice Enforcement 4
  • HFD Grey Bags 3 – Friends for the Weekend 10
  • Hamilton Fire 3 – LA Goal Patrol 2
  • Town of Tonawanda Police 6 – Genesee/Batavia 4
  • D.O.C.C.S 5 – Buffalo Police 5
  • Rink Guards 5 – Buffalo Fire 5

Today’s playoff results were:

  • Niagara County Sheriffs Office 0 – Hamilton Fire 3
  • LA Goal Patrol 5 – On Ice Enforcement 1
  • Hamilton Fire 1 – LA Goal Patrol 3
