Gasoline prices in Buffalo and Rochester are each down a penny from a week ago. A gallon of regular unleaded costs an average of $2.27 in each of the Western New York cities, according to AAA.

Prices are holding steady in New York State, where the average is $2.32 per gallon, no change from last week. A year ago, the NYS average was $2.57. The national average price for regular unleaded gasoline is now $2.18 per gallon, down two cents from last week.

Refineries will begin to switchover to winter blend gasoline this week, which is cheaper to produce. That should bring prices down further as we move out of the summer driving season. However, the possibility of storms over the remaining months of hurricane season could send prices temporarily higher.
