
The Canisius volleyball team lost to MAAC rival Quinnipiac in straight sets this afternoon from Hamden, CT., moving the teams record to 3-11 overall, while going 1-4 in conference play.
The Griffs kept things close in the first set, getting within two points of the Bobcats on two different occasions (17-15, 22-20), before ultimately losing set one 25-20.
In the second set the Blue and Gold once again kept things close, holding a 14-14 tie near the midway point. The Golden Griffins would battle throughout the remainder of the set, getting within two points (24-22), before losing the set 25-22.
The Griffs struggled in the third and final set, falling 25-11 to close the game. In the losing effort freshman Gabrielle Darnaby recorded a team-high 10 kills, with fellow freshman Cassidy Ceriani leading the team in assists with 31. Darnaby and freshman Carly Shifflet had a team leading nine digs as well for Canisius.
The loss is the first in program history against the Bobcats, moving the Griffs to 9-1 all-time against Quinnipiac.
The Griffs will travel to Fairfield Sunday to take on the Stags at 1 p.m. Fairfield is a perfect 5-0 in MAAC play, with a 12-5 overall record.
