The 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released the Academic All-District Men’s Soccer Teams on Thursday, recognizing the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Niagara senior back Konrad Zydowicz was one of 13 players named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Men’s Soccer First Team for District 1 (Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont).
Zydowicz has played in all 15 matches for the Purple Eagles this season, making 13 starts on the back line. In his senior season, Zydowicz earned his first career assist in an Aug. 26 win at Robert Morris, and he scored his first goal at home against NJIT in Niagara’s home opener on Sept. 9. With two games to play in the regular season, Niagara is sixth in the MAAC in scoring defense, allowing 1.44 goals against per game.
A senior business major at Niagara, Zydowicz has maintained a stellar grade-point average of 3.94 during his time on Monteagle Ridge. He will be on the CoSIDA Academic All-America Men’s Soccer Ballot in the spring. First-, Second-, and Third-Team All America honorees will be announced by CoSIDA in early June.
The Purple Eagles play their final two home games of the regular season at Niagara Field. The home stand starts Saturday at 1 p.m. as Niagara hosts the Manhattan Jaspers. The regular season concludes with the annual Battle of the Bridge match against Canisius on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. Zydowicz will be honored along with Shiquan Lowe and Fabrizio Chiari prior to opening kick against Canisius for Senior Night.
