BEMUS POINT — A 31-year-old Bemus Point man was charged Monday with felony driving while intoxicated following a traffic stop on Main Street.

According to New York State Police, Troopers responded to Main Street in Bemus Point to check the welfare of a subject that was reportedly behind the wheel of an idling vehicle for an extended period of time. Subsequent investigation revealed that Zachary Johnson was intoxicated and had been drinking inside the vehicle.

Johnson was taken to SP Jamestown where he provided a breath sample of .17 percent. It was discerned that he had a DWI conviction in 2015 which upgraded the charge to a felony. He was then processed, issued tickets returnable to the Town of Ellery Court and released with orders to appear in the Town of Ellery Court on a later date to answer the charge.
