HOUGHTON — Freshman Blaine Billings (Newburgh/Newburgh Free) won a pair of events as Buffalo State opened its indoor track and field season today at the Houghton Highlander Invitational.
Billings crossed first in the 300-meter dash (35.35) and led a 1-2-3 finish for the Bengals in the 60-meter dash, clocking 7.09 seconds. Darren Thompson (Buffalo/St. Joe’s) and Elijah Lawal (Duanesburg/Duanesburg) placed second (7.11) and third (7.14) respectively. Robert Liebel (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) also posted a victory, claiming the 400-meter dash with the seventh-best time in the nation entering tonight at 50.41 seconds. Freshman Iyore Odigie (West Babylon/North Babylon) was a winner in the triple jump (13.22), and Richard Arnaud (W. Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) was second (12.81m). Another freshman Chris Duhaney (Hempstead/Uniondale) was runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles with the 15th-fastest time this year in Division III at 8.41 seconds. Robert Alexis (Middletown/Middletown) and Arnaud placed fourth (6.49m) and fifth (6.48m) respectively in the long jump. Nick Miller (Hamburg/St. Francis) finished fourth in the 200-meter dash (23.41).
Buffalo State will compete next Friday at the Dr. William Taraschke Classic at Baldwin Wallace.
