The College Swim and Diving Coaches Associate of America (CSCAA) has announced its Scholar All-America Teams and Buffalo State’s women’s and men’s teams are among the honorees of teams that achieved an average grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2016 Fall Semester.

Buffalo State’s women’s team maintained a semester GPA of 3.51, led by senior diver and psychology major Shannon Coyne (West Seneca/West Seneca East) who posted a 3.93.  The men’s team also earned the honor with a 3.01, paced by freshman criminal justice major Dan Kuznetsov (Williamsville/Williamsville South) with a perfect 4.00.

A record 638 teams, representing 394 institutions have been named College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Teams.  The awards are in recognition of teams’ that achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2016 Fall Semester.  Ninety-one additional teams and thirty-six more institutions achieved the honor compared to a year ago.

Part of the reason for the increase in award-winning teams is the overall growth of the sport.  The number of men’s and women’s institutions sponsoring swimming and diving is at a ten-year high.  The sport is also enjoying a bump in participation that has traditionally followed Olympic years.

Buffalo State will compete at the Geneseo Invitational this Saturday and then will close out the regular season with a dual meet at Brockport on Feb. 4.  The Bengals will then compete at the SUNYAC Championships at the Flickinger Aquatic Center in downtown Buffalo from Feb. 15-18.
