EDISON, N.J. – Niagara senior swimmer Shawn Warner earned his second MAAC Male Swimmer of the Week award of the 2016-17 season on Wednesday. Warner earned two individual first-place finishes and two second-place finishes (one individual, one relay) during Niagara’s Senior Day dual meet against rival Canisius on Saturday.
In the final home meet of his senior season, Warner finished first in both of the men’s butterfly events, swimming a 51.22 in the 100 fly and a 1:53.68 in the 200 fly. Warner also took second in the 200 IM with a time of 1:58.38, trailing only Niagara teammate Nicolas Winograd. He also swam on a relay team with Robert Brown, Daniel Leskowicz, and James Crumm and took second in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:15.93.
Warner currently holds eight MAAC top-10 times with one meet to go before the MAAC Championships begin in February. Warner’s 200 fly against Canisius (1:53.68) is the MAAC’s fifth-fastest time of the season. He also holds the MAAC’s top time in the 100 IM at 52.71, a Niagara program record set on Oct. 8, 2016 at Fredonia. Warner’s other MAAC top times accumulated throughout the season include the 200 IM (second, 1:51.65), the 200 free (fourth, 1:41.16), the 100 fly (fourth, 50.01), the 400 IM (fifth, 4:10.35), the 100 free (sixth, 46.23), and the 1650 free (eighth, 16:24.14).
This is the third weekly award of the 2016-17 campaign for Warner, who was named MAAC Male Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 12, 2016 and CollegeSwimming MAAC Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 9, 2016.
Niagara’s dual meet schedule concludes on Saturday as the Purple Eagles head to Olean to take on the St. Bonaventure Bonnies at 1 p.m.
