
HEMSPTEAD — The University at Buffalo wrestling team continued to wrestle well and earned a 32-3 dual win at Hofstra on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls have now won six of their last seven duals.
“We wrestled well today,” head coach John Stutzman said. “This team is starting to come together and believing in themselves. If we keep making daily progress, we can do something special by year’s end.”
Tyler Rill kicked things off at 157 with his second straight dual win. The senior earned an 8-2 decision over Bobby Fehr to improve to 8-5 on the season. Muhamed McBryde followed with a 6-4 decision over Sage Heller at 174 to extend the UB lead to 6-0.
Brett Perry won a close decision over Mike Oxley. The redshirt-sophomore held on for a 4-2 decision to improve to 13-11 on the year.
Bronx native Nate Rose won a 5-1 decision over Nezar Haddad in his homecoming match. The Bulls’ 197-pounder stayed perfect in duals on the season improving to 6-0 on the year. Jake Gunning followed with a shutout of Omar Haddad. Gunning’s 5-0 decision improved the redshirt-sophomore to 13-4 on the season and 10-2 in duals.
At 125, Kyle Akins improved to 7-0 in duals on the year with a 20-7 major decision over Jacob Martin. Bryan Lantry followed with an early second period pin of Vinny Vespa. It was Lantry’s fourth pin of the season and second in his last four matches.
Jason Estevez earned the Bulls final points with an 11-5 decision over Connor Burkert.
The Bulls improved to 8-4 overall in duals on the season. Buffalo is back home to host Eastern Michigan on Friday.
