BUFFALO – The University at Buffalo’s swimming and diving team are headed to Cleveland State this weekend for a dual meet. The women are coming off a split weekend, having beat the Bonnies from St. Bonaventure on Friday and falling to Eastern Michigan on Saturday. The men are coming off of an extremely successful weekend, beating St. Bonaventure Friday and snapping Eastern Michigan’s 72-meet win streak on Saturday.
The Bulls and the Eagles had not met up for a dual meet since January of 2014, and the Eagles have never fallen to the Bulls until this past weekend. In fact, the Eagles were riding a 72-meet win streak against MAC opponents dating back to the 1997-98 season. The Bulls were able to snap that streak after placing in the Top-Three in nine swimming events and on both diving boards. The Bulls saw success from several athletes against Eastern Michigan. Mason Miller took first in three individual events (50 Free, 100 Free, and 100 Fly) and swam anchor for the first place 400 Free Relay team. Reid Zyniecki also took home several Top-Three finishes. He took first in the 500 Free, second in the 1000 Free and 100 Back, and third in the 200 Free. The Bulls saw several other first place finishes including the 200 Medley Relay team of Hudson Carroll, Garrett Clarke, Andrew Cole-Goins, and Eric Jensen; 400 Free Relay team of Carroll, Jensen, Martin Leigh, and Mason Miller; Scott Huang in the 200 IM; and Nick Rodriguez in one the one-meter dive.
Despite falling to Eastern Michigan, the women had a great performance in the pool, sealing several Top-Three finishes. The bulls took first in nine events, second in two, and third in three. Hannah Miller, Megan Burns, and Julia Box each had multiple first place finishes. While Sarah Baxter and Grace Baumer added a first place finish each. The 200 Medley Relay of Box, Anna Vitolins, Baxter, and Eve Kosten; and the 400 Free Relay team of Andrea Ernst, Kosten, Catherine Schultheis, and M. Burns placed second in their events. Abbey Croce led the way for the Bulls in the diving well, taking third on the one-meter dive.
The Bulls currently hold the advantage in the All-Time Series at 5-4 (men) and 8-4 (women). The meet is set to begin Saturday at 2 p.m.
