BUFFALO — The University at Buffalo wrestling team will close out Mid-American Conference action this weekend when they hit the road for a pair of duals. The Bulls will wrestle at Northern Iowa on Friday night and at Northern Illinois on Sunday afternoon.

With their win against Eastern Michigan on Friday night, the Bulls secured their second straight winning season and are now 9-5 on the year. UB has won eight of its last 10 duals. Buffalo’s next conference win will be its fourth – the most in program history since joining the MAC in 1998.

Bryan Lantry and James Benjamin continue to climb the national rankings. Lantry ranks 16th at 133 lbs. and Benjamin ranks 20th at 197 lbs. by InterMat.

The Bulls are looking for their first ever win over Northern Iowa. The Panthers lead the all-time series, 4-0. This season, UNI is 9-3 overall and 6-0 in the MAC. Buffalo trails Northern Illinois, 11-6, in the all-time series. The Bulls won last year’s meeting, 20-16, at Alumni Arena.  The Huskies are 6-7 overall and 2-5 in the MAC this season.

Northern Iowa has six wrestlers in the national rankings. Max Thomsen (149) is ninth, Dylan Peters (125) and Josh Alber (133) are 10th, Bryce Steiert (165) is 11th and Taylor Lujan (174) and Drew Foster (184) are 14th.

Northern Illinois has two wrestler in the national rankings. Steve Bleise is ranked 10th at 149 lbs. and Shawn Scott is ranked 12th at 197.


Friday’s dual at Northern Iowa starts at 7 pm (CST). Sunday’s match at Northern Illinois starts at 2 pm (CST).
