POUGHKEEPSIE — A strong second half lifted the Niagara women’s basketball team over Marist, 68-53, on Sunday.

The Purple Eagles and the Red Foxes kept it close in the first half of the game. Maggie McIntyre led Niagara with six points and Stroemple brought down five rebounds in 14 minutes of play. Marist, however, led Niagara 31-25 going into halftime.

Niagara came out strong in the third quarter and nine points from Stroemple helped the Purple Eagles to a 39-39 tie with the Red Foxes with a little under three minutes to play in the quarter. The Purple Eagles continued to dominate on offense and defense through the remainder of the third. Behind Stroemple’s 11 third quarter points, Niagara went into the fourth quarter leading Marist, 51-43. Two buckets from Stroemple gave the Purple Eagles a 10-point lead, 55-45, with over seven and a half minutes remaining to play in the fourth quarter. Threes from Jamie Sherburne and Morgan Baughman, and seven points from Rampado, helped secure Niagara’s 68-53 victory over the Red Foxes.

The Purple Eagles host Siena for their annual “Play4Kay” pink game on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 7:00 p.m.
