BUFFALO — Connor Mergler (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) captured the conference title in the 50 free for the third-consecutive year, and Dan Kuznetsov (Williamsville/Williamsville South) set a school record in the 500 free as Buffalo State wrapped up the first full day at the SUNYAC Championships tonight at the Flickinger Aquatic Center.

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Connor Mergler (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) captured the conference title in the 50 free for the third-consecutive year, and Dan Kuznetsov (Williamsville/Williamsville South) set a school record in the 500 free as Buffalo State wrapped up the first full day at the SUNYAC Championships tonight at the Flickinger Aquatic Center.

Mergler, a junior, touched first in the 50 free for the third time in three years, posting a winning NCAA B-cut time of 20.47 seconds. Kuznetsov, a freshman, finished fifth in the 500 free with a school-record time of 4:45.05. Mergler also teamed up with Cody Wittmeyer (Boston/Hamburg), Kyle Callan (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) and Ryan McHale (Lancaster/Lancaster) to place fourth in the 200 free relay (1:25.98). Mergler and Kuznetsov also joined Jake Brigham (Binghamton/Binghamton) and Tom DePasquale (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) to set a school record with the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:34.16, placing sixth.  Mergler’s leadoff leg also set a school record in the 100 back (51.99). Justin Moser (Tonawanda/Kenmore East) finished 12th last night in the 1-meter dive (400.90 points). Wittmeyer also scored in the 50 free, placing 15th (22.26). Kelly Lindner (W. Seneca/W. Seneca West) scored the lone individual points on the Bengals’ women’s docket, finishing 12th in the 3-meter dive (332.50).

The SUNYAC Championships will continue tomorrow with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 5:30 p.m.
