WILLIAMSVILLE — The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team swept the visiting Binghamton Bearcats on Saturday afternoon, 7-0.  It was the second straight 7-0 sweep for the Bulls in as many matches.

The Bulls had no issues in doubles as they dropped just one game combined between their three doubles pairings.  The number one team of Tanja Stojanovska and Margarita Kotok and the number three team of Laura Holterbosch and Haley Hollins each came away with 6-0 wins, while the number two squad of Chantal Martinez Blanco and Anna Savchenko won 6-1.

UB had a pair of shutouts in singles as Stojanovska finished with a 6-0, 6-0 win at two and freshman Emel Abibula had a 6-0, 6-0 win at five.  Sophomore Sanjana Sudhir dropped just one game as she won 6-0, 6-1 at six.

Sophomore Mercedes Losada Rubio won 6-0, 6-2 at three, while Savchenko picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win at five.  Martinez Blanco completed the sweep at one with a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win at one.

“It was a great team win as we were composed throughout in both doubles and singles,” said assistant coach Smaranda Stan. “Today I felt like everything we have been doing in practice came together. I am very proud of the team for staying focused all match and following their strategies.”


The Bulls will be back in action Friday when they head to Pittsburgh, Pa. to face Duquesne at 5 p.m.
