DENVER, Colo. — After a nearly week-long break, the Buffalo Sabres gave up a couple bad plays in the first period to find themselves in a 3-0 to the Colorado Avalanche in the first period. The Sabres never quite climbed out.
Buffalo got to within one goal of the home team in the middle of the second period — and again at the end of the second period, but the Avalanche held on for an eventual 5-3 win.
Buffalo goals came from Sam Reinhart at 17:11 of the first period — assisted by Jack Eichel and Rasmus Ristolainen; Marcus Foligno at 9:55 of the second period — assisted by Zemgus Girgensons and Justin Bailey; and Evan Rodriguez at 17:40 of the second period — assisted by Tyler Ennis and Matt Moulson.
The Sabres outshot the Avalanche 37-30 in the loss.
Buffalo plays again Sunday night against the Phoenix Coyotes in Pheonix before returning home to play the Nashville Predators on Tuesday.
