CHICAGO – Stella Peisakhova picked up Niagara’s lone win as the Purple Eagles fell to the Illinois-Chicago Flames, 6-1, on Thursday at the XS Tennis Center.
Peisakhova outlasted UIC’s Georgie Sanders in three sets in No. 1 singles. Peisakhova cruised to an opening set win, 6-1, before falling 6-3 in the second set. Peisakhova was able to break Sanders’ serve on her way to an 11-9 win in the tie-breaking set for her team-leading seventh win of the season. Sansriti Ranjan played a competitive match in her first time playing in the No. 3 spot. The Flames picked up the doubles point after winning all three matches for a 1-0 lead.
The Purple Eagles return the courts for matches against Saint Francis (Pa.) on March 17 at 10 a.m. in Greensburg, Pa. and Mount St. Mary’s (Md.) on March 18 at 4 p.m. in Monroeville, Pa.
