BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — The University at Buffalo softball team lost a pair of games on Saturday at Bowling Green, falling in the opener 2-0 before losing the second contest 3-2.

In the opener, the Falcons had 12 hits, scoring runs in the first and fourth innings.  UB had four hits in the game, including a one-out triple in the second inning from freshman Jenelle Martinez. Buffalo had another opportunity in the sixth as Ufuoma Ogagan moved to third following a single and error, but she was thrown out at home.  Later in the inning, Jessica Goldyn also reached third with just one out, but she too was unable to score.

Junior Charlotte Miller picked up the loss as she allowed 12 hits in 6.0 innings, while striking out a pair. Martinez and Ogagan both picked up hits as well as Leandra Jew and Catrell Robertson.

In the second game, the Falcons again scored in the first inning, but the Bulls tied it up in the fourth as Robertson hit a solo home run to left field.  The game remained tied into the fifth when Bowling Green scored a pair of runs to take a 3-1 lead.

The Bulls pulled within one in the top of the sixth as Goldyn singled up the middle to open the inning and she advanced to second on a bunt single, but was thrown out on a fielder’s choice.  With a pair of runners on, Martinez singled to right field, scoring Jew.  However, UB was unable to get any closer.

Sophomore Ally Power picked up the loss as she allowed seven hits and just two earned runs, while striking out four.  UB outhit Bowling Green, 8-7, in the second contest. Goldyn and Jew both went 2-for-3 in the game.

“We had two more great pitching performances by Ally and Charlotte today,” said head coach Trena Peel. “We are growing offensively every game.  We outhit Bowling Green in the second game and it was great to see Catrell step up and hit another bomb to tie the game and Jenelle also stepped up today and got a two-out hit to score a run.”

UB will continue their road trip with a doubleheader at Binghamton on Tuesday beginning at 3pm.
