COLUMBUS, Ohio – The University at Buffalo track and field team had an impressive final day at the Jesse Owens Invitational. The Bulls’ left with several Top-Ten finishes and personal bests on the second day of competition.
Freshman Sam Wray placed first the competition in the men’s discus throw. The Lockport native threw for a distance of 49.57m, beating second place by 0.83 meters.
Joshua Gali proved to be a driving force on the track, placing first in one event and second in two. Gali was a member of the first place 4X400 relay. Alongside teammates Gyasi Morris, Brian Cummiskey, and Mitchell Moore, the four were able to clock in at 3:12.88. Gali was also a member of the second place 4X100 relay team. Cummiskey, Gali, Moore, and Ryan Billian worked to finish with a time of 41.15 for the second place honor. Gali also clocked in at 47.47 in the 400m for second place.
The Bulls saw five personal bests from different athletes. Kailyn Arcury jumped to a distance of 6.01m in the women’s long jump to set a new personal best and place third overall at the competition. Christine Lyttle also set a new personal best. Lyttle clocked in at 13.79 on the 100HH for a fourth place finish and new personal best time. Amy Villarini ran to a 10th place finish in the 400m, setting a new personal best time of 56.34. Brian Cummiskey and Devon Patterson each set new personal bests for their respective events. Cummiskey clocked in at 10.63 in the 100m, and Patterson threw for a distance of 18.28m in the men’s shot put for fourth place.
The Bulls are back at competition at the Penn Relays on Thursday, April 27 and Friday, April 28. Then the Bulls will be on their home track on Saturday, April 29th for the University at Buffalo Invitational. The team will be honoring their donors at the competition on Saturday.
