UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO ATHLETICS
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The University at Buffalo track and field team had another outstanding day at the 2017 Outdoor Mid-American Conference Championships. The Bulls brought home two medals and broke two school records at the competition.
Devon Patterson kept the tradition of Buffalo being the powerhouse in the Mid-American Conference for throws, with a conference title in the men’s shot put. Patterson threw for a distance of 17.83m or 58′ 6″ for the gold.
Also taking home a medal was 5-year senior Michael Morgan. Morgan posted an overall score of 7166 in the men’s decathlon to take second. Morgan took first in the discus throw of the decathlon, throwing for a distance of 41.10m. He also took second in two events and third in three. Morgan’s distance of 6.84m in the long jump and 13.14m in the shot put earned him two second place finishes. He cleared a height of 1.84m in the high jump for third. Morgan’s other two third place finishes came in the 400m and 110 hurdles with times of 50.16 and 14.96, respectively.
Selina Von Jackowski and Sylvia Russell each broke a school record in their respective events. Von Jackowski advanced to the women’s 110HH finals, while breaking the school record, with a time of 13.59. Nikari Carota and Christine Lyttle both advanced to the finals as well. Sylvia Russell found her way to the podium in the women’s 3000m steeplechase while breaking a school record. Russell clocked in at 10:29.07 for a fifth place finish and new school record. Her time is also the highest placing freshman in the women’s 3000m steeplechase.
The team also had multiple men advance to the finals of their respective events. Brian Cummiskey and Ryan Billian will compete in the finals of the 100m. Billian also advanced to the men’s 110 hurdle finals with teammate Christian Doherty. Joshua Gali and Gyasi Morris both advance to the men’s 400m dash finals. Mitchell Moore and Treyvon Mask compete in the finals of the 400 hurdles on Saturday. In the 800m, three Bulls advance to the finals: Tyler Scheving, Brian Crimmins, and Craig Kaiser.
The Bulls will complete the Outdoor MAC Championships on Saturday, first event is set to begin at 10:00am.
