LOCKPORT — One year following the fire on Stevens Street, community advocates in the Lock City are working diligently to change the narrative of a tragedy into that of a legacy
The fire caused damage, not only to High Tread International, but to many homes in the area. It also took the life of 14-year-old Joe Phillips. But in the wake of the fire, the Lockport community banded together to help one another, many who were displaced by the fire.
“In an attempt to continue that camaraderie, we are changing our focus from the fire to that of the unity of the community and establishing a program of First Responder and Youth Outreach to bridge the social media gap between our young people and calling 911,” according to Kathy O’Keefe, organizer of an event slated for Saturday evening with music and basket raffles throughout the city.
“Lock City Deckfest is a night to come out and spend time with your neighbors whether on your own deck or taking the shuttle to go from the East to the West of the City, to come together in music and food as family,” O’Keefe said.
The proceeds from the Shuttle wristbands and Basket Raffle Hunt will directly go to the Youth Outreach.
Shuttle pick ups will be held at Windsor Village 43 Stevens St. and City Hall at 1 Locks Plaza.
Wristbands are only $10 and BOGO for First Responders, they include the shuttle and specials at each Basket Hunt Stop across the City. Tickets for the Baskets are $5 per sheet.
