Canisius used a strong second round to post a 36-hole team score of 598 en route to finishing second at the annual Little Three Championship Tuesday afternoon at Bartlett Country Club in Olean, N.Y. The host St. Bonaventure Bonnies won the event with a team score of 578, while Niagara finished third with a team score of 601.
Canisius sat in third place after 18 holes on Tuesday before carding a team score of 294 in the second round to beat Niagara by three strokes. The Bonnies fired back-to-back rounds of 289 to win their fourth-straight Little Three crown.
GRIFFS LINEUP
Canisius senior Jaret Chipman recorded his third career top-five finish by tying for second in the field with a two-round score of 145, highlighted by an even-par round of 70 in the second round. Juniors Michael Wells and Matt Genaway tied for ninth with a scores of 150 for the event, while senior David Hanes placed 16th with his two-round score of 155.
TEAM LEADERBOARD
St. Bonaventure has now won four-straight Little Three Golf Championships, the Bonnies’ longest stretch of consecutive titles in the event since the team won six straight from 2004-09. Dating back to 2000, Canisius and St. Bonaventure have combined to win 16 of the last 19 Little Three Championships.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD
St. Bonaventure golfer Nolan Ditcher took individual medalist honors at the 2019 Little Three Championship after he posted a two-round score of 142, highlighted by a two-under-par score of 68 in the first round. By winning the individual honors, Ditcher secures an automatic berth into the 2020 Porter Cup, which will be held next July at Niagara Falls Country Club.
NEXT ON THE TEE
Canisius will return to action this weekend when the Golden Griffins take part in the Cornell Invitational in Ithaca, N.Y. That 54-hole tournament will run from Sept. 14-15.
